Aftermath – World Trade Center

In den Tagen nach den Anschlägen am 11. September 2011 auf das World Trade Center ist Joel Meyerowitz von Anfang an bei den Aufräumarbeiten dabei und fotografiert, zunächst ohne Erlaubnis. Neun Monate lang kehrt er, immer wieder zum sogenannten Ground Zero zurück und dokumentiert das Trümmerfeld und den Einsatz der unzähligen Arbeiter und Freiwilligen, die nach Überlebenden suchen. Die entstandene Werkgruppe mit rund 400 großformatigen Bildern von Ground Zero verbindet auf eindrucksvolle Weise eine fotografische Dokumentation des Geschehens mit einem künstlerischen Ansatz. Einige der Bilder befinden sich heute in der Sammlung des 9/11 Memorial Museums.

 

Aftermath – World Trade Center

In the days following the September 11, 2011 attacks on the World Trade Center, Joel Meyerowitz is there from the beginning of the cleanup, taking photographs, initially without permission. For nine months, he returned again and again to the so-called Ground Zero and documented the debris field and the effort of the countless workers and volunteers searching for survivors. The resulting group of works, with around 400 large-format images of Ground Zero, impressively combines photographic documentation of the events with an artistic approach. Some of the images are now in the collection of the 9/11 Memorial Museum.
